Mission of the Cross

Our Services

At Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church, the Divine Service stands at the center of our life together. Here in Crosslake, Minnesota, we gather not chiefly to offer something to God, but to receive His gifts. Through His Word, He speaks. Through Holy Baptism, Holy Absolution, and the Lord’s Supper, He forgives, strengthens, and sustains His people. For that reason, our services are reverent, liturgical, and centered on Christ and His means of grace. Mission of the Cross identifies itself as a confessional and liturgical congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and that commitment shapes the worship life of the congregation.

Divine Service on the Lord’s Day

The congregation gathers each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for Divine Service. This weekly assembly is the heart of the Church’s life, where the risen Christ serves His people through the preaching of the Gospel and the administration of His Sacraments. Sunday worship is not built around entertainment, novelty, or personal preference. It is grounded in the historic liturgy of the Church and in the Holy Scriptures, which the congregation’s own welcome describes as able to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Reverent and Liturgical Worship

In worship, Mission of the Cross observes the historic liturgy of the Church. This means our services are shaped by the enduring pattern of Christian worship: confession and absolution, prayer, the reading of Holy Scripture, the preaching of Christ crucified, the confession of the Creed, and the celebration of the Sacrament according to Christ’s institution. Such worship is not a matter of style alone. It reflects the conviction that God serves His people through His appointed means and that the Church is called to respond with reverence, faith, and thanksgiving. The congregation’s public description of worship emphasizes that it is both traditional and reverent, with ample use of Scripture.

Word, Sacrament, and Fellowship

Because worship is centered on Christ’s gifts, the Divine Service is followed by continued life together in the congregation. After Sunday worship, Mission of the Cross gathers for Coffee and Conversation at 10:45 a.m. and Sunday School at 11:00 a.m. The congregation also offers Wednesday Bible study at 1:30 p.m. at Mission of the Cross and at 3:30 p.m. at Whitefish by the Lakes. In addition, the church encourages members and visitors to check the calendar or contact the church office for information about Advent, Lent, and feast-day services.
